QZSS Mechanism and Its Role

QZSS is a unique satellite positioning system offered by Japan’s Cabinet Office. It provides highly accurate positioning information within an error level of several centimeters* by correcting data (with an error range of less than 10 meters) supplied by GPS and other information sources. QZSS information is expected to be used in diverse areas of society, such as autonomous driving, supporting the safe driving of cars and railways, and IT farming.
One of the objectives, for example, in the agricultural field, with the aim of labor-saving farming, the Mitsubishi Electric Group developed AQLOC (pronounced “Accu-Lock”), a highly precise positioning receiver, to achieve the autonomous driving of farming machineries. AQLOC is used to demonstrate safe and efficient farming works conducted by farming machinery manufacturers.

*Positioning precision of AQLOC-Light (mobile mode): horizontal positioning precision: 12cm, vertical positioning precision: 24cm (Some environmental conditions or external factors may prevent achieving these levels.)

Plant Factory with artificial light that contributes to the stable supply of farm produce

Plant Factory with Artificial Light Enable Stable Growing Environments Regardless of Weather Conditions

The impact of climate change in recent years is drawing attention to indoor farming. With indoor farms, an artificial growing environment is created. The Mitsubishi Electric Group has combined various technologies, such as air conditioning, factory automation systems, IoT, and LED lighting, to create a plant factory with artificial light. A wide range of such farms, from small container-type systems to a large-scale plant that boasts the world's largest production volume, are now operational. We're contributing to the stable supply of organic and safe farm produce year-round.

Various devices ensure that conditions required for plant growth, including light, nutrients, temperature and humidity, stay optimal through automatic control. Additionally, “visualization” enables remote monitoring of the growing environment, thereby reducing labor and man hours of burdensome tasks.

Manufacturing/Processing & Maintaining Freshness Zone

Try to make a great-tasting sake by controlling temperatures and humidity!

Manufacturing/Processing & Maintaining Freshness Zone

Try to make a great-tasting sake by controlling temperatures and humidity!

On the stage is a virtual sake brewery that requires some physical activity. Here you can experience fine-tuning temperature and humidity control in the koji-making process, which is the key to a sake’s quality. In this experience, successful sake-making depends on your sense of balance.

Mitsubishi Electric Group Initiatives to Support Product Quality and Maintain Freshness

Support to Achieve High Food Quality Control with Air-conditioning and Freezing/Refrigeration Technologies

Temperature/Humidity Control Technologies That Support the Production and Quality of Sake

It is extremely essential to manage the temperature and humidity in the sake fermentation and manufacturing processes. Therefore, sake is traditionally made during the winter months, when bacterial growth is slow.
Mitsubishi Electric Group temperature and humidity control technologies enable sake to be brewed throughout the year, and contribute to maintaining product quality too.

Washing/Steaming rice

Rice is carefully washed with water and steamed after soaking in water. The water and steamed rice are then cooled in large-scale cooling facilities. By controlling the room temperature in a range below that used for homes, bacterial growth is prevented and comfortable work environment is created.

Spreading koji mold on rice

The quality of a sake depends on the koji (malted rice)-making process. Controlling the temperature and humidity are extremely important factors for encouraging the optimal growth of koji on rice. Large industrial dehumidifiers and ventilation systems create an optimal environment, supporting the brewing of great-tasting sake.

Mixing and fementation

In order to activate fermentation while simultaneously preventing bacterial growth, the room has to be kept at a low temperature and it must be dried. Air-conditioners more powerful at low temperatures, combined with a blower system, ensure that the fermentation room is kept cool.

Freezing/Refrigeration Technologies Support and Maintain the Freshness of Food Products and Foodstuffs

Freezing/Refrigeration equipment that maintain the freshness of food products and ingredient from food origin to store

To deliver tasty foods, the key is maintaining the freshness and quality of foodstuffs from their origins to the processing plants, markets, and stores.
Taking advantage of its extensive knowledge and expertise obtained through its proven achievements, the Mitsubishi Electric Group manufactures a wide range of freezing and refrigeration equipment that meet diverse needs. Our energy-efficient products support the preservation of food freshness, as well as the comfort of farmers and workers through the creation of safe and secure working environments.

Origin of Foods
  • In order to ship foodstuffs without losing their freshness:
  • Vegetables, such as lettuce, are pre-chilled to 3-5℃
  • Meat and fish are flash frozen to seal in flavor

Refrigeration equipment and low-temperature air conditioners support the processes of pre-chilling and flash freezing.

Market

In markets that serve as hubs for food distribution, various foodstuffs and people come and go.
Therefore, maintaining temperatures appropriate for each type of food is required.

The Mitsubishi Electric Group contributes to creating environments suited to different requirements by offering a wide range of low-temperature air-conditioners used in various places, from large-scale markets to storerooms for each ingredient, and the workplace as well.

Food Plant
  • In order to create safe and secure environments, we must ensure:
  • The freshness of foodstuffs is maintained
  • The comfort of the people working
  • Measures to prevent the growth of mold caused by condensation and contamination by foreign materials

The Mitsubishi Electric Group provides air-conditioners designed not to blow directly on foodstuffs or workers, industrial dehumidifiers to stop condensation, sensors to detect contamination by foreign materials, and security equipment. Through these devices, we support environments where foods and foodstuffs are common.

Store
  • In order to offer delicious foods in stores, it is important to:
  • Maintain the freshness of food products and ingredient available for sale
  • Create attractive and season-related sales environments

The Mitsubishi Electric Group contributes to achieving these factors by providing freezing and refrigeration equipment that manage temperatures suited to individual foodstuffs and showcases that can be used flexibly in response to changes in sales floor layout.
